Catching up

Ok so this is the first time I've had a chance to get online since Logan was born. On Thursday 3/13 around 1:30 am my water broke, luckily I was in the bathroom when it happened. I went downstairs to find Mike-e playing video games. I asked why he wasn't sleeping and he said he was just really restless and couldn't sleep. Guess he knew what was coming. I told him my water broke and asked him to call the hospital while I took a shower. After my shower we got everything we needed and started to drive down there. The whole drive seemed really unreal like at any moment I would wake up. I couldn't feel any contractions so other than my water breaking it didn't feel like I was in labor at all. We got to the hospital and they confirmed that my water had indeed broke and moved me into a labor and delivery room. The room was really nice and big. Moments later the doctor came in to see how dilated I was and found I was only 1 cm. They hooked me to the monitors and told me that I was having regular contractions so they would check back at 7:30 to see if I had made progress. It was weird that I was having contractions because I couldn't feel them at all. At 7:30 no knew progress so I was started on Pitocin which I've heard from everyone else that it jumps starts labor and suddenly you are having major contractions. Mine still weren't bad at all and I was never even put on drugs. After a couple hours of this and nothing changing they removed the outer monitor and put in an internal one so see the intensity of the contractions. From this point on it was a real pain in the butt to get out of bed and I wasn't allowed to walked around. They could see though that my contractions were just mild. At 5:00 the doctor came in and said they were considering a c-section but the doctor on duty for the night was coming in and they were going to discuss with him. Later that doctor came in and asked my opinion. I told him since there was no knew progress we should do the c-section. My family has a history of not dilating and I didn't want to wait around for another 6-7 hours just to have them do the c-section. I was then prep and moved into the operation room. Mike-e got to be with me and hold my hand. They gave me a spinal which means I couldn't feel anything from the chest down. It's a really weird feeling not know if people are touching you. I didn't even know they had started the procedure until they asked Mike-e if he wanted to watch them pull Logan out. Logan came out and cried right away. It's an amazing sound and makes you feel so good to know that your baby which you been carrying and worrying about for the last 10 months is ok. Both Mike-e and I just cried and then Mike-e left to go look at him. They brought him over to me and he was just so beautiful. They finished with me and then moved me to the post op room where my family was allowed to come in 2 at a time and see him. I was shivering like crazy from the drugs and from being cold and still couldn't feel most of my body. The baby was tested and given a bath which my inlaws have probably a million pictures of and Mike-e took a video of since I couldn't watch. From there we were moved to our hospital room which we would be in for 3 nights. I got to really hold Logan at that point and it was just so great. For the 4 days we were there everyone was really nice. I wasn't allowed to eat solid food until mid-day on Friday which was hard because I was so hungry. We had some problems with the breast feeding to begin with so every day a Lactation specialist would come in and see how I was doing. On Sunday before we left they said that Logan had lost more weight than they would like and told me that I would have to supplement if it didn't improve. That was really hard to hear because it's hard not to feel like you are doing something wrong even though everyone tells you that you aren't. She recommend that I feed him more often, every two hours and said things would improve once my milk came in. They then asked if I was sure I didn't want to stay one more night in the hospital. I was so sick of just being in that room and not really having any where to walk around to that I said I was sure and we were discharged. I put Logan in his going home outfit and he was so cute even though it was a little big. We got home and it was just so nice, the dogs were a little annoying but what can you expect. Since we've been home things have gone pretty well. We've still had our ups and downs with the breast feeding and there are times when I just feel really crappy from the incision and m legs being swollen. Our family has been really nice and supportive which has helped a lot. Mike-s is a really good dad. He takes really good care of me and Logan and makes sure I get sleep since I have to feed Logan every 2 hours. I love having Logan and just holding him while he looks up with his curious expressions.

I am so happy for you. Logan is a very handsome baby. I love all the pictures Mike-e posted. You can tell in the pictures that you and Mike-e absolutely adore Logan. Good luck with breast feeding. Rachel had a hard time for the first week and then it got a lot easier. Hang in there. You will love it once Logan gets used to it. Good luck with recovery. I am glad you are enjoying every moment you get to just sit there and snuggle him. That time is priceless. Best wishes!
